Can I avoid the pain of dry socket if the clot is already gone?
Had a molar and a wisdom tooth extracted yesterday. The clots are both gone and I can see bone. There's no pain yet, but I'm worried that it will start soon. Any advice on this?

You are extremely lucky if you aren't feeling any pain with dry sockets. Those are definitely the most painful things in the world - at least my patients tell me they are, and when I had mine I bawled like a baby. I would go back to the dentist who did your extractions immediately. We pack it with a material that smells and tastes a lot like cloves (it's that smell that you automatically associate with a dental office.) It will numb the area and help a clot to form. It will need to be changed regularly. They'll set up appointments and continue checking it until the areas being to heal on their own. A lot of the time you'll also get a new prescription for pain medication if yours has already run out. Be thankful that you're not experiencing pain right now - when you get it it's like the worst headache, toothache, earache, jaw ache, just plain miserable feeling ever. Hope you get this resolved ASAP! Plus if it's a dry socket from their procedure they shouldn't charge for any of the follow up. Most dentists don't.
