I have a toothache and I bought clove oil. How should I use it?

I have a lot of pain coming from my tooth. One of my fillings fell out and now I feel that my nerve is exposed therefore I feel a lot of pain. I'm also afraid I'm going to need a root canal but I won't be able to see my dentist for the next few days. After doing a little research I found that clove oil is helpful in easing the pain but the problem is that I'm not sure how to use it. Is it harmful if a tiny amount is swallowed? Is it safe to apply clove oil next to the nerve? I would appreciate answers from anybody who is familiar with this painful problem. Thanks!

Oh you poor girl! I have the same problem at the moment, and i am using clove oil too, i use a cotton bud to apply it, just soak the bud and rub all over the tooth and near the surrounding gum, do this a couple of times, hold it in your mouth for as long as you can then rinse, or spit it out. you can do it as often as you need, it really is horrible stuff but works better than any thing else. Also i found nurofen better than panadol for the pain and if you can get to the dr get some antibiotics and stronger pain relief. i am also applying a hotwater bottle to the side of my face, this is helping too, i hope you get rid of that dasterdly pain soon, its the worst!xx
