Recovery for appendectomy?
Please answer only if you are in the medical field or have had an appendectomy. What is recovery like? What should the patient feel for the first few days?

I work in a general surgeons office. You want the appy done laparoscopically - that is 4 - 5 small (inch or less) incisions. The doc inserts "trocars" - one being a camera - which he maneuvers, watching on a screen, and gets the appendix out thru one the incisions. We don't suture anymore - altho some surgeons do, we use like a glue.. If you're younger - you should be fine in a day or two. Older people take a bit longer. I had my gallbladder and appy out on a Friday, went to a party Saturday night and back to work Monday. Most - however, take a week off. Laparoscopically it is not a bad procedure at all.
